bloggy business

big, tall, and lugged, pt. iii

Making progress. Getting' things done.

Lots of things going on around here. Other job. Kiddo. Ramping up for the Adventurebike production run. Been hard to find the time to wrap up this bike. But I finished making the racks the other day. Or at least finished them up besides the final finish work on the racks, but we can finish that later... Importantly, though, the frame and fork are ready to go off to paint. And now that the racks are (mostly) done, we don't need the frame bits hanging around anymore. Here's where we get the customer to decide on a color (the latest thought was sparkly burnt orange), pack it up, send it off for a nice wet paint job, and wait and wait for it to return.

In the bike industry painters are notoriously slow. Having worked at a shop where we painted our own bikes, I would mostly disagree with that. Paint is really difficult to do well. And it takes a lot of time and attention to do it well. I have a tremendous amount of appreciation for the painters in the custom bicycle world. I love you guys and what you do. And I total understand why things take a while to get back to the framebuilder. But I digress...

Check out the Flickr album for this one, lots of good stuff there. More pics of racks and decaleur to come...
